Job Description
Milton Academy, an independent, K-12, co-educational boarding/day school, seeks an Upper School Principal for a July 1, 2010 appointment. Milton’s Upper School is an intense academic community, strongly committed to individual growth, creativity, and diversity among faculty and students. Chartered in 1798, the Academy comprises 975 students in grades K-12, with 670 Upper School students (grades 9-12) and 125 Upper School faculty. The boarding program, which begins in ninth grade, includes 330 students from across the country and around the world. Located eight miles from Boston, the school utilizes many opportunities afforded by a major urban center.

Milton seeks a proven educator with excellent management, communication, and interpersonal skills. The Principal should be able to hear and appreciate different constituencies while affirming and advancing the school’s philosophy and values. The Principal will inherit a vigorous, successful faculty and thriving student body. The person should have the ability to stimulate an extraordinary faculty, foster a cooperative community spirit, and balance Milton’s tradition of excellence with an evolving vision for the school’s future. The Principal will join the recently appointed Head of School to build on the strength of Milton's history in developing insightful, independent thinkers.

This successful candidate will be knowledgeable of curricular issues and innovations, experienced in promoting diversity, and attuned to the complexities and rewards of a K-12 community. Prior experience in independent schools is strongly recommended; prior experience in boarding schools and a Master's degree are preferred, but not required.
