Trinity School seeks candidates to lead its Athletic Department, beginning July 2010.
The Director of Athletics is responsible for the leadership, management, organization and administration of its 7-12 interscholastic athletic program, fielding teams in cross country, soccer, water polo, volleyball, tennis, basketball, wrestling, swimming, indoor track and field, baseball, softball, track and field, lacrosse, and golf.
The Director’s specific duties include (1) recruiting, hiring, supporting, developing and evaluating the school’s coaches; (2) ensuring that the department operates in accordance with its and the school’s policies, procedures, philosophy and mission; (3) developing and encouraging effective communication within and about the department; (4) developing and overseeing annual budgeting and athletic purchasing; (5) directing day-to-day operations in athletics, including practice schedules, facilities needs, and transportation.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Athletics works with the Assistant Director of Athletics, the Athletic Trainer, Program Coordinators, and Administrative Assistant as well as with a large staff of full-time and part-time coaches. The Athletic Director works collaboratively with the school’s principals and department chairs, especially the performing arts chair and the co-chairs of the physical education department.
Successful coaching and teaching experience is required, preferably with middle- and upper-school-aged students. The ideal candidate will bring to the position successful experience leading and managing a complex program as well as a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, coaches, parents, and teachers. Above all else, candidates will need to embrace an educational approach to athletics and an understanding of the integral place of athletics within a comprehensive educational program that seeks to foster balance while pursuing excellence.
