The Board of Trustees for Westside School in Seattle, Washington seeks a leader with a love of children and of learning that will inspire faculty to prepare students for the world by challenging them to achieve academic success and by connecting their human spirit and imagination to learning. With a new campus and a new school building, the new Head of School will be asked to focus on teaching and learning, mentoring faculty to be the best educators they can be, and partnering with families to provide challenge and support for children ages 3—14.
Chief among the attributes the successful candidate will have is knowledge of and the capacity to communicate, comfortably, to all audiences, about 21st century educational practices as well as about the impact of cognitive science on evolving pedagogies.
With roots that started in West Seattle's co-op community, Westside School offers a progressive, integrated, project-based curriculum. Westside values small class size, collaboration, empathy and is an inclusive, multi-age community where older students mentor younger students and each other. The walls of the building contain but don't limit the program - teachers are empowered to take advantage of learning opportunities as they arise. Westside School serves 350 students in preschool-eighth grade. In the fall 2015, Westside School moved to a permanent campus in the Arbor Heights neighborhood of West Seattle, which supports our mission and values as a progressive, academically rigorous, relationship rich, pre-kindergarten through eighth grade school with the core values of Academic Excellence, Joyful Learning, and Creating Confident Learners in a Caring Community.
