Primary Responsibility: To serve as an active member of the school's administrative team, contributing to the overall strength and effectiveness of the entire school. To assist the Head of School in the daily running of the school and to be responsible for the supervision and coordination of all Middle School activities.
Classification: Exempt; 12-month employee
1. Set the overall tone for focused work and joyful engagement in the Middle School.
2. Inspire faculty and student commitment to Hamlin’s mission, Creed, and strategic goals.
3. Infrastructure and Oversight
Creates, coordinates, and communicates annual Middle School schedule
Adjusts daily schedule when needed; oversees calendar of assemblies, field trips, and events
Evaluates and approves field trips
Approves official letters from faculty to parents as well as letters of recommendation for Grade 8
Partners with Head of School on official correspondence regarding matters of significance
Works in partnership with Director of Admission and Head of School to oversee admissions
Works in partnership with Secondary School Counselor and Head of School to support the secondary school admissions process
Works in partnership with Outdoor Education Coordinator to ensure student safety and smooth coordination of outdoor education with academic calendar
4. Faculty Excellence
Initiates hiring process and partners with Head of School in vetting and hiring of new faculty
Supports entry and transition of teachers new to the school
Observes classes formally and informally
Evaluates a cohort of faculty annually and meets with faculty at least three times annually for the purpose of goal-setting, mid-year check-ins, and end-of-year conversations
Encourages professional growth and supports faculty in their growth and renewal plans
Plans and facilitates meaningful division meetings
Reviews and approves professional development requests in partnership with the Standing Committee on Program Excellence (SCOPE)
Facilitates meetings for special groups, grade-level advisors, student support services team
Assigns faculty to grade-level advisory teams
Selects and supervises Grade Level Coordinators
Works with faculty coach to support new teachers and to conduct peer observations Instructional Leadership and Curriculum Oversight
