We are currently seeking a Director of Institutional Advancement who will provide leadership, strategy, and direction for the School’s advancement function and exceed advancement goals through: leadership giving, annual giving, alumni engagement, research, stewardship, special events and campaign giving. This position will begin on July 1, 2018 or sooner. We seek an innovative, intelligent, and value-driven advancement professional to serve as our lead fundraiser. This position at The Episcopal Academy (EA) is an outstanding opportunity to lead the alumni and development program at one of the nation’s top independent schools and serve as a key member of a highly accomplished senior leadership team setting the strategic direction.
The Director of Advancement will report to the Head of School and will provide innovative leadership and strategic vision to all aspects of Episcopal Academy’s fundraising activities. This challenging position requires visionary leadership, exceptional judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the school’s diverse constituencies—both internal and external.

We expect our ideal candidate will:
Lead all aspects of the upcoming campaign for endowment growth. Mentor, build, and lead a team specifically tasked with guiding strategy and execution. Construct a creative and compelling case for support to grow Episcopal’s endowment to strengthen the sustainability and vision of this school.
Cultivate strong working relationships with administrators, faculty, and staff across the school. Ensure that the alumni and development office is seen as a collaborative, responsible partner able to professionally address both opportunities and concerns.
Analyze the board’s giving patterns and encourage their personal participation in philanthropy. Provide the highest level of personal support to the board and volunteer leadership for their activities on behalf of EA; ensure that their volunteer experience is meaningful, productive and enjoyable, and that the board’s intellectual and emotional connection to EA and each other is strengthened.
Implement and execute a sophisticated strategy for increasing annual fund support.
Serve as lead advancement professional working with top prospects capable of giving at the six, seven, and eight-figure level. Serve as a role model and mentor to the Major Gift Team, creating a more robust culture of goal setting, moves management, and solicitation strategies.
Strategize for and implement a robust planned giving program.
Ensure that existing alumni relationships are deepened and maintained while proactively seeking out relations with other alumni and friends of Episcopal. Pioneer new and innovative techniques to connect with alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends across generations with a keen eye for increasing participation among younger alumni groups.
Guide and support the Head of School in his role as chief spokesman and fundraiser, serving as coach, mentor, and co-strategist in cultivating and soliciting transformative gifts. Ensure that the Head is well-briefed and that his time spent is highly productive and personally rewarding. Similarly, guide and support the trustees, senior staff, and other key volunteers in development activities.
