Green Mountain Valley School is a world-class ski academy located in Fayston, Vermont with alpine training facilities at Sugarbush Resort and multiple Nordic training facilities throughout the area. We foster a life-long love of learning, sport and adventure. Our unique program produces the finest ski racers in the country while preparing them for studies at the most competitive colleges and universities. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director of Advancement oversees all areas of institutional advancement including fundraising, marketing/communications, recruiting/admission efforts and alumni affairs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, implement, and manage – in collaboration with the Head of School and Board of Trustees – a comprehensive fundraising program to successfully raise annual, capital and endowment support to achieve the school’s mission and long-rangestrategic goals
Keep the Head of School and Development Committee engaged with and informed of all fundraising activitiesandprogressagainst establishedgoals
Oversee the GMVS Annual Fund: Write and produce annual appeals; develop annual fund materials; recruit and manage annual fund volunteers to support the GMVS Annual Fund goals, maintain key relationships with lead donors
Develop and execute Major Gift strategy for key donors: Maintain key relationships with lead donors and schedule regular 1:1 visits. Communicate with donors via email and phone and steward relationships through the year. Develop and execute donor relations’ strategies for key constituencies. Meet with new parents. Meet with all Board members 1:1 each year
Plan and engage in thoughtful stewardship of key relationships, including ongoing communications with lead donors, capital donors and key members of the community. Report on endowment gifts or status of restricted gifts. Update with community engagement news
Develop and manage Capital Campaigns: Recruit and support the work of volunteer leadership team. Draft case statement and supporting Campaign materials. Liaise and communicate with the Board of Trustees and provide regular reporting to the Board and appropriatecommittees
Oversee development office budget and staff. Manage gift accounting, acknowledgements and donor database as well as a confidential record keeping system. Manage Foundationgrants
In consultation with the Director of Finance & Operations, maintain working knowledge of all relevant IRS regulations, ensuring all acknowledgements are compliant.
Write and produce the Annual Report. Conduct ongoing prospect research for advancement purposes, supporting the work of the Trustees and the Development Committee
Manage Alumni Coordinator and oversee events: Advance alumni relations; link alumni engagement to the GMVS Annual Fund and other development office goals; track results of increased engagement
Oversee planning, execution and analysis of events in key markets for constituent base; including Parent’s Weekend Golf andGala
Assist with on campus events for various constituencies asneeded
Marketing and Communications
In conjunction with the Head of School, Assistant Head, Director of Admissions, and the Board of Trustees, design and implement a coordinated communications and marketing program that will connect and engage the school with our variousconstituencies, including prospective students and families
Develop key themes, stories and messages that resonate and produce meaningful and measurable results. Deliver through a varied channel mix including social media, web, print, video, etc.Innovate by leveraging platforms consistent with demographicmix
Use creativity and drive to develop and launch new initiatives such as sponsorship and Ambassador programs that deliver simultaneously on multiple objectives
Build awareness of the GMVS brand, its mission and its programs through all viable marketing tools and venues
In conjunction with the Head of School and Assistant Head, supervise all matters involving publicity and public relations, keeping the public informed of GMVS’s accomplishments
Manage electronic communications including updates to the website, social media, and regular GMVS Updates
In conjunction with the Head of School, Assistant Head, Director of Admissions, and members of the coaching staff, formulate forward-thinking, creative and strategic recruiting and admission efforts.
Take an active role in the recruitment of mission-appropriate students.
Ensure all key individuals involved in recruiting are well-informed, coordinated and organized throughout the admissions process. Provide support as needed.
Work with the Director of Admissions to ensure the timely reporting of admission, enrollment, and attrition statistics.

Experience with major fund raising activities, including capital campaigns, annual giving and special events
Ability to interpret the school's mission and to persuasively represent the school to prospective students and families, donors and community leaders whose interest and commitment are essential to oursuccess
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and facility with Excel, PowerPoint and donor management systems
Ability to work effectively with the Head of School, Development Committee, Trustees, staff, parents, students and volunteers from varied and diversebackgrounds
Capable of balancing the school's need for sound professional assistance with an informed and engaged volunteer base
Capable of clearly articulating roles and responsibilities to volunteers from varied and diverse backgrounds. Able to inspire and motivate, as well as train and guide individuals towards specific fund raising actions whenneeded
Ability to handle stress in a professional and courteous manner; get along with staff, parents and students; work collaboratively and respect confidentialinformation
Neat, organized and have an eye for detail. Be aware of the school calendar as a whole, anticipate needs in advance ofevents
