Montgomery School, an independent, co-educational day school serving prekindergarten through grade eight in Chester Springs, PA, is seeking a Lower School Art Teacher/ STEAM teacher. The candidate will enhance a strong visual arts program, with an emphasis on collaboration and creativity and should have a good understanding and experience with STEAM curriculum. He/she will have a mastery of age-appropriate techniques and technologies, as well as a passion for working with children and adolescents. Prior experience in teaching art and STEAM classes is preferred.
The Lower School art teacher/ STEAM teacher is a full time member of the school faculty and is responsible for all of the duties that accompany the position. The primary responsibility is teaching art classes to grades PreK through fifth grades, as well as collaborating, organizing, and supporting our STEAM program for all grades. Opportunities also exist to work with the school community outside of scheduled daily classes, including after school student enrichments, art clubs, and school programs. The position has many functions, these include but are not limited to:
Work with the Middle School art teacher and music teacher in further developing our arts programs for PreK through Grade 8 to cover a developmentally appropriate curriculum
Have a solid pedagogical knowledge of both art and STEAM
Have strong communication skills, including written, oral, and digital communication
Regularly communicates with parents on program highlights
Plans and displays student artwork and STEAM projects throughout the school year and for the All School Art Show
Selects and prepares student artwork for the Framed Art Awards presentation in the spring
Works with classroom teachers in cross-curricular lessons and projects
Plans and organize Visiting Artist Week for the Lower School.
