The Director of Communications is a US-based administrative position responsible for guiding SOLA’s communications strategy and public relations, and managing SOLA’s grant application process. This position reports to the vice-president and works closely with SOLA’s president, senior leadership in Kabul, and the US-based financial staff. This is a full-time, twelve-month appointment beginning July 1, 2017 and located in Boston, MA.
Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across SOLA’s different audiences and constituents.
Oversee the generation of online content.
Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic material, including SOLA’s newsletters, brochures, videos, social media, and website.
Coordinate webpage maintenance, ensuring that information is accurate, up-to-date and posted regularly.
Maintain SOLA’s archived communications material.
Research and apply to potential grant opportunities and prepare grant reports for existing awards.
Bachelor degree in marketing, journalism, or public relations strongly preferred.
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of communications and public relations activities, particularly in the non-profit sector
Superior written communication skills.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
Skill and comfort with writing press releases, making presentations, and communicating with media.
Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
Computer literacy in word processing, database management, and page layout.
Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
Excellent collaborative skills and team-oriented approach.
