Description: Corlears School, an independent elementary school in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, is seeking a passionate, engaging, experienced athletics educator to serve as a part-time sports coach for its afterschool program. The afterschool sports program will serve approximately 15-20 children each day, ages 8-10, in the Corlears School gym.
Job Hours and Dates:
Four days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday), from 3:30 pm to 4:45 pm
This position is for the 2017-18 academic school year; from approximately August 28, 2017 through June 7, 2018
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Organize and supervise sports games and athletic activities for afterschool students, such as basketball, soccer, and capture the flag
Provide instruction and guidance for students in each athletic activity
Create and ensure an environment of sportsmanship and mutual respect in all games that align with the values of Corlears School
Effectively manage the gym space, ensuring the health, happiness, and enjoyment of each participating student
Coordinate with Corlears School physical education teacher to ensure proper sports equipment is available for each class, and organized at the class’ conclusion
Secondary Job Responsibilities:
Perform any tasks, specifically related to the Corlears School afterschool program, beyond those specifically assigned, as help is needed
Communicate with other members of the afterschool team, especially the supervisor of the afterschool program, regarding any issues or areas of concern with a student
Qualifications (minimum education and experience):
Experience coaching children and/or working with and supervising children in an athletics setting
Passion for athletics, and specifically youth participation in athletics (of all abilities)
Competence in supervising a youth athletic competition in an engaging and dynamic way
