The Academic Support Coordinator on the Basking Ridge campus will serve as the primary point of contact for students with learning profiles in grades 6 - 12. The Academic Support Coordinator will work with several constituencies – faculty, parents, outside evaluators, and standardized testing organizations – to ensure that student learning needs are accommodated. The Coordinator will develop methods to support students within the classroom, serve as a resource for teachers, and work with students to develop individualized learning plans.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about diverse learning styles, will have experience reading and interpreting psychoeducational testing done on students, and will be adept at sharing this information in actionable ways with teachers. Clear communication skills, the desire to work on a team, a sense of humor, and a gentle touch are required for success in this position.
The primary responsibilities of the Academic Support Coordinator are:
Know individual student learning styles based on educational testing reports.
Work with faculty, parents, and outside evaluators to identify strategies and teaching techniques that best serve the student.
Meet individually with students with learning profiles to create individualized learning plans for school.
Collaborate with parents to develop plans for home.
Meet individually or in small groups with students to support classwork.
Work with faculty to provide an understanding of learning issues, for specific individual students as well as for ongoing professional development.
Help teachers adopt successful teaching strategies that take into account students with learning differences.
Serve as a resource for faculty for help with implementation of school-based accommodations.
Serve on US and MS Student Support Teams. Through these meetings, identify students who may be struggling academically and provide support as needed.
Assist in identification of students with possible learning differences, and serve as primary point of communication with parents.
Make referrals for psychoeducational testing and academic or organizational tutoring as needed.
Oversee standardized testing (College Board, ACT, ERB) for students with accommodations, including initiating accommodations process and handling appeals.
Coordinate final exams in June for students with accommodations.
Maintain accurate records of students with educational testing on file.
