The Chicago Waldorf School is seeking a part-time High School Guitar Ensemble Teacher.
DUTIES INCLUDE: - Teaching a Monday and Wednesday mid-morning, cross-grade Guitar Ensemble elective - Selecting appropriate repertoire and making arrangements using tablature for the ensemble - Leading two or three, 5-minute performances, including one evening music concert - Tracking student progress, and writing mid-term and end-of-semester student evaluations - Occasional department meetings and check-ins with the Music Coordinator to coordinate performances and to fulfill the aim of the high school music program
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS: - Advanced degree in guitar - Successful experience working with youth guitarists in an class/ensemble setting - Waldorf teaching experience is highly desired, but not a requirement - Knowledge of tablature and of making arrangements for a guitar ensemble - A love for working with adolescents - Enthusiasm, humor and patience
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Guitar Ensemble is an ensemble class rather than a class where one learns to accompany songs. Students will play different parts like in an orchestra. The music will travel through different genres during the year: classical, folk, rock and jazz. Basic note and tablature reading skills will be introduced and there will be opportunities to review basic chords and strumming patterns as well. (Prerequisite: Guitar I or equivalent)
