Position Purpose: The Second Teacher is responsible for assisting implementation of the daily program under the direction of the lead teacher. The PK/K Art Teacher is responsible for implementing the prekindergarten and kindergarten art program within the framework of the PK-12 art program.
Assist in designing and implementing curriculum
Assist in the management of the classroom in accordance with the lead teacher
Instruct children in small and large groups
Provide individualized support during instructional times
Participate in parent teacher conferences and in house meetings as needed
Supervise outside playground activities
Set up interest centers, prepare materials as needed, support technology needs.
Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
Help with general housekeeping and classroom tasks
Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences
Participate in morning, lunch/recess and afternoon duties as needed
Teach Art classes for prekindergarten and kindergarten
Create a safe, welcoming classroom environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking and problem solving
Work closely with 1st-5th grade art teacher and develop curriculum and activities in conjunction with PK-12 Art program
Participate in the Art PK-12 committee
BA/BS degree required
Ability to work collaboratively with lead teacher and other faculty to enhance curriculum and community
Strong verbal skills with students, colleagues and parents
Strong ability to multi-task and keep to a schedule
Commitment to professional development and best practices in education
Education experience in a variety of instructional methods
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
