The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 835 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Purpose of Position
To provide for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of facility grounds and related equipment and vehicles
The inspection, maintenance, and repair of building systems and components, as required, in accordance with recognized industry and school standards to assure the timely and appropriate readiness of designated facilities in support of the schedule and programs of the school.
Hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm / 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Weekends, holidays, or extra hours for Shipley events may be necessary.
Regular hours may be adjusted according to school needs.
You may be asked to work additional hours when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 3 year’s grounds keeping/maintenance experience preferably in an educational environment.
Minimum of 3 years driving experience with no moving violations.
Valid driver’s license.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical ability to perform duties as outlined below.
Satisfactory personal background checks in compliance with Pennsylvania law.

Lawn and garden maintenance (including seasonal cutting, trimming, edging, raking, grading, seeding, irrigation, and mulching: plant removal, replacement, and watering).
Be able to perform any duties assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Physical Plant/CFO.
Maintain athletic field and all tennis courts for optimum play performance and athlete safety: field and goal lining, tennis court and associated posts/nets upkeep, repair and refurbishment of spectator seating.
Removal of leaves and brush from all campus areas.
Removal of snow and ice, and salting as seasonally required for all areas of ingress/egress: including drives, parking lots, walkways, and exterior access stairs.
Fence and sign repair and replacement, including directional signage removal and installation.
Parking lot safety and security, including stop block placement and overall cleanliness of parking lot surface.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Maintenance/Groundskeeper is responsible for:
Driving student, faculty, parent, and visitor groups as requested observing all safety regulations and policies.
Executing assigned duties within the scope of the Physical Plant Department Policies and Procedures handbook.
Checking perimeter and interior of campuses for paper, debris, etc.; collecting and discarding.
Keeping all exterior entrances, courtyards, walkways, stairwells, etc. clean and swept.
Maintaining all playing fields, lawns, bedding shrubs, trees, including campus housing in the best possible condition and preparing for games and scrimmages as required and documenting work done.
Performing routine preventive maintenance tasks on all ground equipment and vehicles as required.
Checking and repairing playground equipment and documenting work done.
Performing routine checks on all school vehicles and repairing as necessary.
Performing additional duties as required in case of emergencies, inclement weather, or disasters.
Assist in setups/tear-downs as well as storage as needed.
Maintenance and custodial assistance to other maintenance staff and housekeeper including visitor parking pick-up and delivery service, custodial building cleaning and trash removal.
Ability to read and follow guidelines for safe use and disposal of products/materials requested to perform job responsibilities.
Ability to perform duties and operate equipment in a skillful manner to accomplish the essential functions as outlined above.
