K-8 SCHOOL COUNSELOR - BRANDEIS MARIN, SAN RAFAEL, CA
Position: K-8 School Counselor FTE: Part Time (60%) Exempt Reports to: Dean of Lower School & Dean of Middle School

We are currently seeking a School Counselor who is inspired by our mission and eager to master a variety of responsibilities.
Act as a resource and support for students, teachers and families in grades K-8.
Assist the parents and faculty with the emotional and psychological development of students.
Support families in times of crisis, such as a divorce, a death or a disaster.
Provide individual short term counseling to students with identified emotional, social and/or behavioral difficulties.
Provide referrals to families to outside resources (professionals, books, websites).
Attend Student Support Team meetings.
Participate in Middle School Advisory program.
Attend Middle School meetings.
Attend Lower School team meetings.
Attend Lower and Middle School Student Study Team meetings.
Lead/facilitate parent education classes.
Consult individually with teachers to discuss student needs and to implement an action plan to meet those needs.
Provide classroom education, such as drug education, how to handle peer pressure, social issues, and verbal and non verbal communication skills.
Consult and communicate with outside providers – psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, behavioral pediatricians.
Monitor student progress and maintain communication with all parties involved with that student (i.e., Brandeis Marin faculty, administrators, parents, outside therapists, pediatrician…).
Provide consultation for families and teachers.
Consult with division heads about student and family needs.
Attend student conferences when needed.
Provide group counseling as needed, such as social skills/friendship groups and adolescent support groups.
Attend outside continuing education workshops in order to stay well-informed.
