The Cadet Advisor/Tactical Non-Commissioned Officer is a senior NCO who acts as an essential developer of leaders for a company of cadets at Carson Long Military Academy. Daily duties include being the First Sergeant for a cadet company; responsible for the health, welfare, and discipline of up to 75 cadets; counsels, trains, and develops cadet NCOs and Officers on all aspects of Carson Long operations from squad to company level; While reporting to the Commandant of Cadets and working with the JROTC Officer in Charge, teaches and supervises Drill and Ceremony, military leadership and health and fitness; monitors and conducts military training and the inspection of company areas and formations; assists in the overall development of the cadets to meet the graduation requirements, including building strong character and being prepared to excel at the next level of their development and education, as well as reach their full potential as future responsible citizens and ethical leaders in a global community. He or she will work in a team with the Cadet leadership to establish a proper command climate within their respective companies; also assist each cadet in balancing and integrating the requirements of physical, military, academic and moral-ethical programs. They will exemplify the high standards that are expected of the NCO Corps. The Tactical NCO is the first senior NCO that will have great influence over cadets; he/she must represent the top tier of the American Military’s NCO Corps and will reside with the Cadets on a daily basis, for the entire contract period.
To be successful a Cadet Company Advisor/Tactical NCO applicant must be able to:
Maintain a professional military appearance in uniform by maintaining weight and body fat within established standards.
Sit and stand for extended periods of time performing both classroom instruction and conducting after school activities.
Be able to lead physical training activities, walk extended distances, such as leading hikes or participating in field training, demonstrating drill sequences and marching in parades.
Perform normal physical movements such as bending, reaching, moderate lifting and pushing, pulling without difficulty.
Follow detailed instructions, perform tasks that require attention to detail, and follow all prescribed institutional policies.
Calmly and positively handle dynamic and hectic situations, loud sounds and stress.
Be punctual, without the need for frequent work absences due to existing medical conditions.
The basic criteria for this assignment are:
Have a strong desire to serve in a critical position at Carson Long Military Academy
Former Staff Sergeant, with Platoon Sergeant time
E-7 (Sergeant First Class/Gunnery Sergeant) with 9-14 years of service
