Girard College seeks an experienced full time Elementary/Middle School Counselor beginning September 2017. Reporting to the Director of Counselling and as part of the Girard College school-wide Title I Program, the role of the Elementary/Middle School Counselor is primarily one of emotional support, with a thorough understanding of the complexities and challenges of a residential elementary/middle school. The Counselor provides socio-emotional support to students. This person works closely with the Elementary/Middle School Academic Dean.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide counseling services to elementary/middle school level school students with academic, social, emotional and behavioral challenges.
Develop and implement “action plans” that address students’ needs and issues.
Provide the Director of Counseling with a Weekly Counseling Log and complete required counseling reports in a timely manner.
Maintain list of external referral sources to address student needs and make referrals in consultation with the Director of Counseling and Dean as appropriate.
Conduct group counseling sessions for students as needed.
Participate in all Grade Level Meetings or arranged meetings regarding a students as needed
Facilitate and maintain appropriate communication with residential and academic faculty with regard to student issues and concerns.
Participate in all elementary/middle school events and all professional development activities assigned by Girard College.
Develop and maintain constructive relationship with parents
Other responsibilities or duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in counseling or related field required and counseling certification preferred.
2–3 years previous counseling experience in a school setting working with elementary/middle school students preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proven ability to work collaboratively.
Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation reimbursement available
