Latin School of Chicago’s Development and Alumni Relations Team plays a vital role in contributing to the overall education and personal development of Latin students and maintaining Latin’s place as an outstanding educational institution. Through community outreach, relationship building and general awareness activities, the department motivates Latin’s constituencies and the community-at-large to participate in and support the school, securing the financial resources required by the Latin School to carry out its educational objectives.
The Assistant Director of Development for Annual Giving is responsible for raising the funds needed to meet the operating budget goals, promoting the Latin brand, and inspiring broad participation in giving. This is a twelve-month salaried position reporting to the Director of Development with various night and weekend responsibility.
The Annual Giving Director’s primary responsibility is to design and execute the fundraising plan for annual operating support. In close coordination with the Director of Development, and with the involvement and support of development staff, s/he is responsible for day-to-day oversight role for the annual giving program and its various volunteer committees.
A member of the major gifts team, s/he carries a small portfolio of prospective and current lead donors, participates in campaign strategy discussions.
This position requires comfort working with lead donors and volunteers; superior interpersonal and organizational skills; self-reliance and self-motivation; the ability to multi-task in a highly active work environment; confidentiality and discretion; and a positive attitude.
Success is determined by campaign execution, dollars and participation secured, and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents, grandparents, and student volunteers
Develops strategy for annual giving programs, including Latin Fund, individual event sponsorship, and leadership giving efforts
Partners with the Director of Advancement Services on segmentation of solicitation and stewardship efforts
Develops the content for the online, email, and social media strategy of Latin’s giving programs
Participates in direct solicitation and stewardship
Leads the volunteer management of:
o Parent Giving Chairs and the Ambassadors Program
o Alumni Giving volunteers o Grandparent co-chairs o Parent of Alumni volunteers
Coordinates all aspects of parent phonathons, including volunteer management, logistics, follow-up, analytics, and results tracking with the data support of the Director of Advancement Services; and
Participates in analysis and reporting on progress toward annual giving goals for internal and external audiences
Coordinate annual giving stewardship
Is knowledgeable about Latin and Development Office activities and provides excellent customer service to its constituents
Participates in Leadership Annual Giving solicitations
Assists with major gift donor stewardship
Assists with office activities and events as requested
Work Requirements and Qualifications
A minimum of two years of fundraising and volunteer management experience
A bachelor's degree or higher
The ability to work in a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Loyalty to the organization and ability to articulate the school’s goals and mission
Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekend
Self-starter with high energy, great diplomacy, and a positive attitude
Ability to problem-solve and exercise good judgment
