The American Boychoir School seeks an energetic, self-motivated, and organized person with strong interpersonal and communication skills to join our team as Director of Admissions. A day and boarding school for boys in grades 4–8, ABS is committed to its mission of combining the training program for mastery of choral music with a project-based academic program in order to create a profoundly integrative educational experience which emphasizes creativity and traditional values as self-discipline, self-reliance, hard work, teamwork, and dedication to long-term goals.
Along with the President, the Director of Admissions identifies the admission goals and works closely with the Head of School, Artistic Director, and other senior staff to develop and implement recruiting strategies and to organize efforts that ensure re-enrollment and retention.
Provide a welcoming environment that leads to lasting relationships with potential and newly- enrolled students and their families
Manage the formation of enrollment goals and lead school-wide recruitment and admissions enrollment initiatives
Organize admissions events including Open Houses and attend admission fairs, choral conferences, community festivals
In conjunction with the General Manager, develop and implement a marketing campaign in publications and online that relays the school’s mission as well as plan and implement materials for recruiting new students
Coordinate auditions and communicate with interested families both before and after admission decisions have been made
In conjunction with the Music Department, identify and schedule performance opportunities for the Training Choir and Concert Choir that have recruiting as the primary purpose
With the Head of School and the Music Department, coordinate and orchestrate school tours and student overnight visits, as well as obtain and review follow-up surveys from each department to aid in the decision-making process
Develop and conduct exit interviews with individual families and yearly cultural surveys with the school community
Provide support and instruction to families applying for financial aid
Work with the Finance Committee, analyze family need and award financial aid
Oversee the preparation and maintenance of statistics regarding recruitment and alter strategies and approaches in response to that information
Administer community outreach efforts, such as the Apprentice Program (after-school program) and the American Boychoir Experience (one-week summer camp)
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred
In-depth understanding of independent schools and 4–8 grade boys
Experience in admissions and financial aid, preferably in a boarding school setting
