The Nueva School was founded in 1967 to serve gifted students, and has expanded to serve preK-12th grades across two campuses. True to its founding principles, Nueva continues to be a dynamic laboratory school with opportunities for deep and rigorous learning. Nueva offers an accelerated and interdisciplinary program that provides extended experiences where students design, discover, reflect, and apply their ideas in practical and real-world contexts. In this setting, Associate Teachers work in partnership with Mentor Teachers to deliver a student-centered, project-based curriculum that inspires passion for lifelong learning, fosters social and emotional acuity, and develops the imaginative mind.
The Innovative Teacher Development Program is designed to provide classroom teaching experience, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for new and developing teachers. Through this program, Associate Teachers spend each day in the classroom, working with students, collaborating with teachers, building curriculum, teaching lessons, and reflecting upon practice. They participate in all aspects of school life, including parent-teacher conferences, staff meetings, and school events. Associate Teachers also attend regular workshops as part of a year-long curriculum to explore current topics in teaching and learning. Associates become members of the Nueva community of educators, one defined by collaboration, inquiry, and excellence.
Associate Teachers generally serve for two years. During their second year, Associate teachers develop a teaching portfolio, and receive support in applying for positions, building a resume, and preparing for interviews.
