Early Childhood Assistant and Afterschool Coordinator
Westtown seeks an afternoon assistant for the PreK and Kindergarten program who will then transition into overseeing the youngest children in the afterschool program called Moosekids.
From 12:00 to 3:30, the assistant would work in a fluid way in the PreK and K program supporting the team of lead teachers and other assistants.
From 3:30 to 5:00 or 6:00, the assistant becomes the Moosekids Early Childhood Coordinator and provide attentive, empathetic care of the youngest children. The mission of the Moosekids program is to offer activities, which feel like a neighborhood of children actively playing with the option of art, science and sports experiences.
We are looking for candidates with interests in sports, music, art, the natural world and young children. A sense of humor is a must. Organizational skills, a love of children and flexibility are required. Moosekids runs Monday to Friday, 3:30 to 5:00 or 6:00 with additional hours for in-service, partial school days and vacation breaks.
Specifically, this assistant would:
Support the social emotional learning of PreKers and Kindergartners
Assist the academic work of the classroom program
Help create open ended projects in both the classroom program and in the afterschool program
Help resolve the inevitable conflicts of play and friendships in ways that align with Quaker practices
Facilitate the transition of children from PreK and K to Moosekids
Report to the Director of Auxiliary Programming and the Lower School Principal
Coordinate with Lower School and Moosekids on attendance and enrollment tracking
Maintain shared space and respect established Lower School procedures and rules
Communicate closely with parents about daily interactions during Moosekids
