Girard College seeks an experienced Assistant Dean for Students for a full-time, twelve-month administrative position. The Assistant Dean for Students will report to the Head of High School and work with fellow administrators, faculty, and staff to develop the programs, policies, and culture to support student wellness, growth and achievement that are aligned with the school’s mission and core values. The Assistant Dean for Students oversees student conduct, the attendance system, and the advisory program. The ideal candidate will also clerk the student Honor Council and lead efforts to create a positive, self-directed student culture.
Specific duties and responsibilities include: (but are not limited to)
Overseeing enforcement of core values in the student/family handbook including creating and implementing character education curriculum
Assists with lunch duty and other student activities as needed
Supervising students on campus during school day
Collaboratively develops and administers a high school tiered behavioral system with the Academic and Residential Deans
Instructing students in appropriate behavior, disciplines students in accord with established guidelines and policies
Assist Head of High School in developing new policies and procedures as needed
Assist with facilitating professional development of faculty around good classroom expectations, engagement and protocols to avoid student misbehavior
Researching and implementing the best practices that will ultimately foster positive student experiences
Conferring with families and students concerning student attendance, tardiness and behavior.
Resolving student behavior issues in a fair and timely manner and maintains meticulous records of disciplinary actions or referrals
Monitoring the physical facilities of the school and maintains a safe and secure learning environment while serving as official liaison for maintenance staff and security
Monitoring and/or overseeing detention, suspension, and other disciplinary situations
Good communication skills and the ability to work in collaboration with faculty and staff
An advanced degree in administration or secondary education
At least 3-5 years of experience in the classroom and administrative experience
Collaborative nature, positive nature, sense of humor and ability to be calm under pressure
Superior skills in communication and technology including writing and public speaking
