Assistant teachers at Turning Point School are individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in education. Requirements for the Primary (preschool) Division include a BA degree (not necessarily in Education) as well as 12 credits in Early Childhood Education. Experience in an Early Childhood setting preferred.
First and foremost, the Assistant Teacher acts as a support for the Head Teacher. While this support system is expected, it is also the hope and expectation that the relationship between Head teacher and Assistant will develop so that teaching opportunities will arise. In general, duties include:
Daily interaction with the students and Head Teacher
Help in preparing the classroom learning environment and materials
Maintenance of the classroom environment
Staff meetings /extracurricular school functions
Modeling of appropriate professional behavior
