The Head of School leads our learning community and drives educational excellence, and growth opportunities at GEMS World Academy Chicago. Working with the leadership team, the Head of School guides strategic development of academic programs, engages and inspires faculty, staff, students and families in creating a culture of innovation and initiatives to grow the mission and vision of the school.
The Head of School is responsible for marketing and development of strategic growth of the school with support from CEO, CFO, and CLO. The Head of School must embrace the mission of global citizenship and international education trends and inspire the faculty, staff and students in their pursuits and shepherd the construction of our state of the art high school.
Grow enrollment in both the lower and upper school.
Realize vision, mission, and academic strategy for the school and systematically implement long term plans for growth and expansion.
Lead in the school of the future and a learning community distinguished by imagination and innovation.
Embrace and integrate technology and the city of Chicago as a campus.
Maintain an extensive campus with building projects and plans for future expansion.
Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
Ensure high quality performance measurement for each school student in order to raise the standard of academic achievement, and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
Create and maintain a strong relationship at every level with respect to teachers and students and promote responsible stewardship in order to ensure that the educational objectives are delivered and the morale of the school community is maintained to expected standards.
Establish education and administrative procedures and processes to facilitate the school’s strategy effectively and efficiently and implement all standard operating procedures as identified by the corporate office.
Ensure that all vital information about the school and academic achievements are captured and reported to the corporate office so that timely and appropriate management decisions are taken.
Provide parents with timely feedback about the academic and general progress of their children to create a partnership that ensures student growth and progress by organizing parent-teacher meetings. Providing students with feedback on their strengths and performance improvement needs so they can monitor their own progress. Promoting GEMS parental engagement strategy. Maintaining appropriate records for this purpose.
Ensure well developed performance management and professional development plans to enhance expected and realize academic and human capital growth and development.
Recruitment of high caliber faculty and staff who are motivated, prepared, developed and engaged to deliver school’s education and business objectives.
Develop annual operational plans and budgets for the school in line with the long term plans, in order to realize the long term strategy, ensure schools are optimally staffed to deliver the school’s business objectives of revenue and profit, and improve school standards.
Establish and maintain good relationships between: a) students & teachers, b) parents & teachers, and c) school and the community in order to widen the educational horizons of students, build good community relations, and favorably project the image of the school.
Effectively utilize and manage all resources including staff, equipment, and infrastructure in order to run a cost-effective business unit.
Effectively and smoothly administer all support facilities such as transport, health services, maintenance, and infrastructure in order to ensure an efficient and well run school while also ensuring the school complies with GEMS internal audit criteria and external accreditation.
Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
Qualifications and Qualities
Graduate degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education and at the PhD level.
Be a confident, strategic and innovative leader who has the ability to foster and strengthen a strong sense of school community with administrators, faculty, staff, students and families.
Have a proven experience and expertise in building and leading high-performing schools
Be an inspiring and charismatic leader with capacity to continue development and successful expansion of our school
