Founded in 1963, Lake Ridge Academy is independent, nonsectarian day school offering co-educational classes from kindergarten through grade 12. Located on a beautiful 93-acre campus, it is Cleveland's only west side K-12 private, co-ed independent school. Lake Ridge enrolls approximately 420 students in three divisions: Lower School (K-5); Middle School (6-8); and Upper School (9-12). The Upper School typically enrolls about 150 students.
The Mission of Lake Ridge Academy is:
To send into a changing world confident young people of integrity who think critically and creatively while embracing the joy of lifelong learning.
The school aspires to achieve its Mission by providing small classes, maintaining an 8:1 student to teacher ratio, presenting a rigorous academic program, and offering a variety of co-curricular opportunities. The size of the student body and the commitment of the adults who support them enable Lake Ridge Academy to have a close knit and supportive community. “We are a diverse community of families who seek an outstanding educational experience for our children. We are a community of students who thrive in a learning environment where we are known, loved and held to a high standard by our teachers. We are a community of mentors, of scholars who value an intense intellectual debate as much as we cherish a child’s smiling face. We are also a community that embraces our cultural differences and believes that understanding and appreciating those differences makes us better world citizens.”
The pillars of the academic program are three Centers of Excellence: Scientific Exploration and Research, Fine Arts, and Global Citizenship. These are focused academic program areas that provide enhanced learning opportunities for all K-12 students. The Centers build awareness, knowledge, and applied skills in the Lower and Middle Schools, so that students are a well prepared for rigorous and specialized coursework in the Upper School and college.
Lake Ridge Academy is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States and chartered by the State of Ohio as a college preparatory school. In addition, it holds memberships in the National Association of Independent Schools, the Ohio Association of Independent Schools, and the College Board Association.
Carol Klimas became President of Lake Ridge Academy in 2007 and has announced her intention to retire upon the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year. Ms. Klimas came to the school following a career in banking, and her tenure leading the school has been highly successful. With her example, the Board of Directors is open to considering candidates from academic and non-academic backgrounds. Most importantly, the Board seeks an individual of outstanding character, whose personal and professional skills match the school’s culture, and who will inspire and enable Lake Ridge Academy to achieve its vision for the future.
The President/Head of School reports to a 21-member Board of Directors, most of whom are current or past parents and/or alumni. The Board has appointed a Search Committee to identify Lake Ridge Academy’s next leader, and Educators’ Collaborative is assisting with the search.
