Girard College seeks an experienced Long Term Substitute Teacher for High School French beginning November 2017 and lasting for the remainder of the school year. Teach all levels of French Grades 9 through 12. Our teacher will need to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction, aligned to discipline specific standards. Work collaboratively with teachers in other disciplines as well as the residential staff responsible for the high school students. Participate fully in the college academic and residential community. The position reports directly to the Head of High School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach French to students in grades 9 - 12.
Provide instructional leadership with a high degree of competence, adhering to high expectations within a child centered, performance based context.
Manage the classroom in a positive, enthusiastic, and professional manner.
Have significant competency in integrating technology into instruction.
Facilitate and maintain appropriate communication with students, parents and Residential Faculty with regard to student progress.
Participate in all high school events.
Participate in all professional development activities assigned by Girard College.
Become involved with and supportive of the College community at large, its Mission and Vision, for the benefit of student social, ethical and intellectual education.
Be persistent in attempting to identify and to put into practice effective methods or content which will support and enhance the curriculum and learning in general.
Model and maintain appropriate student behavior.
Develop and maintain constructive relationships with parents.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate major, Master’s preferred.
Experience teaching French required.
Instructional Certificate required, PA Teaching Certification preferred.
Teaching experience at the high school level, especially in a diverse setting.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Proven ability to work collaboratively with all members of the community
Experience/ability to integrate technology into instruction
Consistently strong recommendations from previous employers and others.
Preferred - some competencies in a wide range of areas supportive of student learning e.g. coaching, club leadership, the arts.
Local candidates preferred as there is no relocation reimbursement available
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
