The Part Time Lower School Learning Specialist works in the classrooms co-teaching literacy lessons as well as working with children in small reading and writing groups in grades 3-5The Learning Specialist provides specially designed instruction to assist students in the acquisition of skills and knowledge. S/he supports and consults with classroom teachers in support of students with learning concerns. The specialist will participate on the Academic Concerns Team that supports overall student academic progress in the upper school. Utilizing researched based knowledge, the Learning Specialist, will work with teachers and LS Principal to provide leadership and expertise in lower school literacy.
Activities associated with this role also include working with grades 3-5 in the classroom with teachers/small groups of children; working with individual/small groups of special needs students.
An undergraduate degree in reading, literacy, psychology or special education is required for this position; a Master’s degree is preferred. Three to five years of experience working with students of this age group in an independent school is desired. A successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to use formal and informal assessments to diagnose and monitor student progress and achievement of the instructional objectives.
