Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 934 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Substitute Music Teacher to join our expert faculty on an intermittent basis to cover for an intermittent Leave of Absence. We are looking for someone who will be able to assume responsibilities for teaching general music to students in grades 3 and 5, and Middle School Band. Close collaboration with classroom teachers at these grade levels is necessary in order to integrate music into various curricular topics shared by all.
The approximate work schedule for the substitute teacher is as follows:
October 24 ? November 13, 2017 (15 days)
Ten (10) Mondays: November 20, 2017 – February 12, 2018
February 12-16, 2018 (5 days, including the aforementioned Monday)

Qualifications for General and Instrumental Teacher:
Masters in Music or a closely related discipline preferred
Experience in teaching Orff instruments
Significant classroom experience
Experience with multi-cultural music for children
Experience in teaching band instruments
Experience with music technology preferred
Expectations of General and Instrumental Teacher:
Organized and purposeful about materials and lesson plans
Excellent classroom management techniques
Knowledge of developmental issues facing upper elementary and middle school students
Able to be flexible, helpful, patient and creative
Sense of humor appreciated
Additional Salary Information: $120/day for cross-training; then $150/full day; this position is not eligible for benefits.
