Riverside Military Academy seeks a Vice President for Advancement. The Academy was established in 1907 and has grown to be one of the nation’s largest military boarding schools. It has a well-earned reputation for excellence in college preparation and molding young men into leaders with character.
The Academy is located in a rich and growing market primed for attracting high quality potential donors. Five counties within a one-hour drive of campus are listed in the 100 fastest growing counties in the nation and seven of Georgia’s top ten wealthiest counties are within sixty miles.
The campus is located on Lake Lanier in the city of Gainesville with a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Gainesville is a thriving and vibrant community of 36,000 with a county population of 190,000. The city is rapidly becoming a suburb of greater Atlanta which is just fifty miles southwest on Interstate 985/85. Hartsfield-Jackson International, the world’s busiest airport is in Atlanta.
The Academy’s student body is organized as a Corps of Cadets. All high school students are enrolled in Leadership Education and Training courses. Riverside graduates continually earn admission and scholarships to top U.S. and international universities. The Class of 2017 received in excess of $6.7 million dollars of merit based scholarships.
Riverside has a rich history of providing a distinctive education for pre-collegiate young men. The Academy offers a structured and challenging academic program with a commitment to the development of self discipline, self esteem, critical thinking, personal responsibility, spiritual awareness, and physical fitness. Cadets are encouraged to strive for excellence in every endeavor.
The Academy’s rigorous academic program is designed to thoroughly prepare each cadet for college. Average class size is sixteen cadets, with extensive individual attention available. Advanced Placement courses are offered in all core academic departments. Riverside has a comprehensive Character Education Program with both formal and informal instruction including a Distinguished Speaker Series that incorporates bi-weekly speakers followed by discussion groups focused on integrity, leadership, ethical decision making, and sound judgment.
Athletics play an important role in the lives of all Riverside cadets as it instills teamwork and self esteem. Facilities are well maintained and rival or exceed those found at many colleges.
The integrated experience and structured environment are carefully tailored to inspire learning. Riverside’s immersive environment, centered on the development of all aspects of a young man’s character, fitness, leadership and knowledge, is simply unavailable in a typical public or boarding school.
An ambitious Facility Master Plan completed in the early 2000s at a cost of over $100 million resulted in one of the most impressive campuses in the nation. The dormitory houses all cadets under one roof, including a dining facility that accommodates all cadets and faculty in one seating. The campus also includes a fully equipped infirmary, a natatorium, gymnasium, library, theatre, faculty apartments and an armory. The president’s home is often used as a venue for special events. All remaining buildings, classrooms, and athletic facilities have been renovated as well.
