Worcester Preparatory School is seeking a new Head of School beginning in June/July 2018. The Head of School will be responsible for all aspects of WPS’ operational management; ensuring that standards of excellence are set and maintained. The scope of responsibility for the Head of School includes, but is not limited to the following:
Improve student performance against national benchmarks.
Offer leadership to the staff, students, parents and other stakeholders.
Work with the Board of Trustees to provide policies and procedures that represent best practices.
Provide a supportive and well-disciplined learning environment.
Develop additional school facilities to meet the increasing demand.
Oversee all financial and business operations.
Develop a long-term vision for WPS and new strategic plan.
For the next Head of School, there will be some challenges needing to be addressed:
What is the appropriate staffing level for current enrollment?
What are the priorities for facilities based on current resources?
Do we have the appropriate operations and procedures in place?
How do we stay competitive with other schools?
How do we balance WPS tradition with 21st century best practices?
The Board of Trustees seeks a Head of School with the vision, experience and drive to successfully take WPS into the future. It is important for the new Head of School to have:
Ability to encourage the “all around education” of WPS and go to the next level in academics, athletics, arts and sciences.
An open-mind with ability to be adaptable and flexible.
Good communication skills, while being able to listen and be open to change.
Demonstrated integrity and commitment to the school and its stakeholders.
Extensive experience as a respected educator with a passionate commitment to student development.
Interest in new challenges and determination to operate effectively.
Leadership skills and the ability to inspire.
Strong organizational and people-management skills with the ability to delegate across departments with timely follow-up to ensure efficiency and closure.
Results-oriented leadership style that inspires towards team building and success.
Understanding of budget planning, implementation and reporting along with ensuring effective fiscal responsibility.
The new Head of School should have:
A degree in relevant discipline (Masters degree required; Doctorate preferred).
Proven track record in a private or independent school setting.
