The Lower School Learning Specialist works with various community members both within and outside the school to support student growth and manage individual student accommodations in partnership with classroom teachers.
Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Be familiar with all students with psycho-educational testing and write profiles of formal evaluations.
Work closely with, and be a resource for, division principal, teachers, support services team, and parents to support students of concern.
Provide useful and manageable suggestions to teachers and tutors for accommodation of students with learning disabilities/concerns.
Consult with teachers about effective support before significant units of study.
When working with individual students, provide suggestions that are useful and immediately applicable to their current work.
Read all admissions files for the applicable grades in each division and attend all pertinent meetings in the Admissions process.
Administer initial screening in the fall which assesses preliterate, reading and comprehension skills for all students. Administer periodic assessment for students of concern.
Work with students to support learning needs in small groups or within the classroom setting.
Review and interpret educational testing and create online summaries to capture needed student supports.

In addition to these responsibilities, the ideal candidate will work flexibly with diverse individuals. Background in special education in elementary school settings is required.
