Position Description:As part of our extended learning programs, GDS seeks an innovative and skilled leader to direct and lead our Summer Studies program.
The Director of GDS Summer Studies & Camps is responsible for all aspects of our Summer Studies and Break Camp programs, including program development and supervision, marketing, budget management, staff development, management and evaluation, enrollment and registration, hiring, billing, communication with parents, children, and colleagues and more.
GDS Summer Studies is a currently small, summer academic enrichment program that we are looking to take to the next level. The Director will be expected to have sufficient knowledge of a variety of subject areas (including science, math, visual or performing arts, language arts, computer programming, technology and engineering, and more) in order to fully support and evaluate the Summer Studies Program.
The GDS Break Camps are hands-on, educational, stand-alone programs geared towards PK-5th graders and take place on parent-teacher conference days, in-service days, the first week of winter break, and one week of spring break.
This role is a ¾ time, 12-month, exempt position and reports to the Auxiliary and Extended Learning Programs Director. Though this is not an hourly role, workload is expected to be 15-25 hours a week September-October and December-March, ±30 hours per week in November and April-mid-May, and full time June-August. In addition, the Summer Studies and Camp Director Position will be required to supervise 6 individual days of camp for PK-5th graders during the school year as well as one week of winter break and one week of spring break. The Summer Studies Director is expected to be available and not to take vacation during scheduled program days.

The ability to provide those elements, work collaboratively with colleagues, and place children’s interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom are essential components of the job. Responsibilities include the following:
Communication with potential and enrolled parents, teachers, and students
Program marketing, including advertising, website updates, etc.
Management, hiring, payroll and training of all Summer Studies staff
Program development, supervision and implementation
Financial management (including billing, collections and expense management)
Day-to-day program management, including registration support for families
Configuration of the summer database and summer website
Summer supply management
Support the Auxiliary Programs, including the Break Camps, as needed
Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
Master’s or doctorate degree in education, school leadership, or equivalent professional experience
Previous experience managing and leading a team
Minimum 4 years teaching experience or equivalent
Ability to think on one’s feet
Ability to work collaboratively
Strong communications skills (oral and written)
Previous database and financial management experience
Proven ability to use a database and website content management system
Detail-oriented and global perspective
Varied knowledge-base to allow support and evaluation of enrichment programs
Must enjoy working with children
Position Status: This is a ¾ time, year-round, exempt position.

Location: This position includes the possibility of telecommuting.
