Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, ECFS is a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses—one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.
The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will work in tandem with the Director of Development to increase the school’s unrestricted support. S/he will collaborate in the planning and execution of a fundraising plan with a particular focus on increasing parent and grandparent participation in the Annual Fund.
Recruit, train, and support volunteers for the Parent Annual Fund Volunteer Effort (PAVE), Senior Class Gift, and Benefit Committee.
Provide regular updates to volunteers via e-mail.
Monitor progress toward class giving goals and overall participation goals.
Staff various committees related to the Benefit
Create a strategy and oversee the Grandparents of ECFS program.
Recruit and support volunteers to assist at phone-a-thons.
Design strategies to increase grandparent participation in the Annual Fund.
Form VI Gift
Create a strategy and oversee the Senior Class gift.
Recruit and support the parent volunteer committee.
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship
Design strategies for recapturing past donors and acquiring new donors.
Research and assist the Director of Development in developing strategies for upgrading Annual Fund donors.
Maintain a portfolio of solicitations.
Collaborate with Director of Development to write/design/produce annual giving solicitations.
Ensure accuracy of mailing lists for the school’s annual giving solicitations.
Analyze giving results and prepare reports as requested.
Proofread and verify accuracy of data for Annual Report.
Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Special Events on development office events including but not limited to the Loyal Oaks Society brunch, volunteer thank you reception, grandparent reception, etc.
Oversee the fundraising and volunteer management portion of the Benefit, including but not limited to auction item solicitation, Big Give solicitations, volunteer coordination and communication, and website.
General Office Support
Help staff special events as needed.
Support special projects as requested.
Minimum of five years of fundraising experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge, or similar relational database software
Experience working with volunteers and/or customer service background a plus
Desire to be part of a team with the capacity to work well individually
Exceptional initiative and work ethic
Ability to think strategically and analytically, to deal effectively with challenges, and to be creative
Ability to work nights and weekends as required
