Overview: The Director of Advancement Operations provides management leadership and strategic vision for the Advancement Office, which is comprised of fundraising, communications, and alumni relations. This person is responsible for the day-to-day management of Advancement operations, functions and personnel, serving as a liaison between the Advancement team and the Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement. The Director of Advancement Operations works closely with the Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement to set and achieve advancement goals in support of the School’s mission.
Collaborate with the Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement to prepare the annual advancement plan, goals and budget for inclusion in the overall school strategic plan.
Maintain strategic outlook for Advancement office, ensuring all efforts align to meet prioritized departmental goals as part of organizational strategic plan.
Make recommendations to the Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement on policy, staffing and budget needed to accomplish goals.
Draft, review and organize all department policies and procedures.
Support the Associate Head of School for Institutional Advancement with projects and programs as needed with particular emphasis on Board of Trustee and Trustee Advancement Committee functions.
Foster a work environment that encourages new ideas, effective collaboration, efficient communication, and maximum individual and team productivity.
Set priorities for the Advancement team; ensure all tasks and procedures adhere to institutional standards of excellence and support departmental goals.
Lead regular Advancement team meetings: set meeting agendas, facilitate group discussions and monitor productivity.
Manage the Advancement team (7 FTE). Work with individual team members to set annual goals. Conduct regular meetings with each team member to track productivity. Provide leadership and support in instances of struggle, failure and/or conflict to help team members achieve their goals.
Make recommendations to the Associate Head of School for Advancement regarding the hiring, retention and the assignment of Advancement staff.
Manage grant writing for grant proposals and reports, as needed.
Direct the implementation of Advancement team members’ moves management and donor stewardship plans.
Oversee Advancement team donor stewardship. Organize, assign, prepare and track annual stewardship reports to donors, including General Endowment, Financial Aid, Emerging Scholars, Endowed Chairs, Foundations, Trusts, Named Endowments and individual donors, as appropriate.
Supervise the research, purchase and implementation of new technologies and systems to provide the next level of endowment stewardship and produce individualized reports to endowment donors.
Coach all Advancement team members on use of Raiser’s Edge software.
Continually evaluate industry standard best practices to enhance efforts in prospect research, annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, constituent relations and donor stewardship
Screen and evaluate prospective donors.
