Pacific Ridge School seeks candidates for the position of Middle School Head. This appointment will be effective July 1, 2018. The Middle School Head is a highly visible community member who leads the academic and social experience of students in grades 7 and 8 at Pacific Ridge School. Working directly with the Heads of Upper School, Assistant Middle School Head, the Director of Community and Inclusion, the Director of Student Life, and faculty who teach 7th and 8th graders, the Middle School Head is responsible for inspiration, leadership, vision, and logistical support for Middle School students and faculty. The Middle School Head articulates the division’s vision and goals to all constituents; creates opportunities for students to try, succeed, inquire, and explore in a range of curricular and co-curricular areas, promotes the overall well-being of middle schoolers; and is responsible for day-to-day oversight of the Middle School. As the primary leader in charge of vision, execution, and communication in the Middle School, the Middle School Head is also responsible for communication with parents and annually evaluates a cohort of teaching faculty.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Middle School Head also teaches one academic class, as do all Academic Administrators. This Middle School Head is a hugely important leadership role at Pacific Ridge School as this school leader works with all facets of the school to ensure the Pacific Ridge student experience a healthy balance of “rigor and joy” on campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide inspiration and leadership for the Middle School students and faculty
Provide vision and oversight for 7th and 8th grade curricular and co-curricular programs
Promote enthusiasm and excitement for the Middle School program and Middle School students.
Develop and oversee a range of co-curricular opportunities for Middle School students
Responsible for communicating with Middle School parents about -- events, vision for middle school education, parent education programs, student success and student concerns
Serve as primary evaluator for faculty who teach primarily in the Middle School
Serve on the school’s Academic Leadership Team
Lead other areas of the school as needed

Strong candidates have significant school and potentially administrative experience and preferably a Master’s degree. They have extensive knowledge of the developmental characteristics and needs of middle school children; pedagogy, curriculum, and educational technology. They demonstrate a collaborative attitude, dynamic communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as impactful organizational skills. The Middle School Head is a team player and one who works towards solutions with an energetic spirit. The ideal candidate has an ability to work well under pressure in our high-energy, high-tech, and fast-paced campus culture.
