Lake Forest Country Day School, a pre-K through Grade 8 independent school in Lake Forest, Illinois, is seeking a long-term substitute Middle School Choral Director and Elementary and Middle School General Music educator for spring 2018. Rehearsals for two separate choruses meet twice weekly before school. There are several concerts that will be conducted during this time. Most of the repertoire will be learned prior to your direction but regularly expected fine-tuning of music prior to performance will be necessary. The Middle School Choral Director and General Music Teacher collaborates with two other music teachers in the school to provide our students with an integrated music education which focuses on music literacy, listening and analysis, and performance. In addition, the Choral Director and General Music Teacher works closely with a vibrant Fine Arts Department to achieve the common goal of artistic literacy for all of our students.
Director of Choruses and General Music Teacher
Serve as the Choral Director, Elementary and Middle School General Music Teacher, and member of the Fine Arts Department
Strong piano skills are essential
Rehearse, accompany, and conduct two different choruses in rehearsal before school four days per week
Conduct chorus performances for local Senior Center Tour, Spring Choral Concert, Grandparents/Special Friends Day Concert, and Graduation
Accompany and conduct general music class performances for Grandparents/Special Friends Day concert
Implement written curriculum to general music classes in third, fourth, seventh (world drumming), and eighth grade (music history)
Member of the Fine Arts Department
Participate in dialogue with two other teachers of music to develop continuity and mutual support
Attend regular department meetings and support all fine arts events at the School
Work as part of the Fine Arts team, ensuring that teamwork, flexibility, sense of humor, and creative problem solving remain important
Work and plan with individual instrumental private instructors
Develop and balance budget
Organize instrumental rental program for Beginning Band program
Member of the Faculty
Engage in activities that foster/celebrate our students as creative individuals
Additional responsibilities may include
Serve as an academic advisor
Attend regular team meetings
Engage in team-level collaboration and goal setting
Establish common and/or compatible classroom-management expectations and team management protocol
Perform all non-teaching duties assigned by the Upper School Head and/or Team Leader
Help to flexibly organize time within the daily schedule
Plan and revise curriculum as needed
Write narrative progress reports
Articulate regular parent communication
