The College Counselor position will join a college counseling staff of three, including a Director of College Counseling and a College Counseling Coordinator. All three members of the staff work to develop programs that support the college and career needs of our student population. This position will be an integral part of the school’s program to guide students (and their parents) through academic planning, the college search and the college admissions process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in the process of guiding students and parents through the various stages of the college counseling process, starting with annual course selection issues and culminating with the application process for seniors
Meeting with students individually and in groups to educate and empower them on how to navigate the college process, admission trends, and college options
Facilitating visits between students and college representatives at the school
Establishing connections with colleges and universities throughout the country and world
Attending conferences and professional meetings in order to remain current with industry trends
Organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
Work evenings and weekends when necessary
Work with the Director to develop new programming on college exploration for students and their parents
Coordinate the schools standardized testing program, including test-day administration
Actively engage in the School community
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree.
Three to five years of experience in a similar position that includes student-counseling experience.
A vision for preparing students to thrive in a world of constant change, encompassing a global perspective, character and skills development, and sustaining a love of learning
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking ability and experience in writing letters of recommendation
Familiarity with Naviance and Google Docs
Thorough knowledge of college admissions and financial aid practices
Organizing and coordinating skills
