Position Summary: The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for building and implementing a developmentally appropriate and diverse curriculum that supports the overall development of the boys, and is responsible for maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate learning activities for individual boys and groups
Teach children with varying abilities and learning styles
Plan and prepare the learning environment, set up centers and prepare needed materials and supplies
Provide a structured, disciplined, encouraging, and creative classroom environment
Supervise and mentor Kindergarten Teaching Assistant
Host perspective parents and sons during the Admissions process
Effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with parents, other professionals, and colleagues
Demonstrate flexibility with regard to scheduling and student instruction
Participate in school-wide curriculum mapping
Participate in school evaluation and professional development programs
Participate in some infrequent evening or weekend activities, including meetings, professional development, or other school activities
Monitor carpool and playground
Perform all other duties, as assigned
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
At least 2 years of teaching experience in an early childhood setting
Technical Skills, including Microsoft Office and Google mail
Aptitude in teaching children with varying abilities and learning styles
Sense of humor, enthusiastic and happy, high ethical professional standards, and multicultural perspective.
Familiarity with current research on the education of and learning styles of boys
Experience teaching guided Reading and Math
Familiarity with teaching Writers Workshop and Everyday Math
Experience with implementing differentiated plans
Experience in communicating with parents about the educational program
Strong understanding of a Kindergarten reading and writing continuum
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
Be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
