The Berkeley School, a progressive independent school in the East Bay portion of the San Francisco Bay Area, seeks a full-time long-term substitute to join our multicultural, learner-centered community as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher to teach 7th Grade Pre-Algebra and 8th Grade Algebra 1. The successful candidate will join a cohesive, collaborative faculty team in our learner-centered middle school. With the support of the Middle School Division Head and the team, the math teacher will be responsible for math curriculum design, review, and implementation. In addition to leading an advisory group of 10-12 students, the math teacher will work closely with the middle school teaching team to plan and carry out local travel, outdoor education, and service learning. The math teacher will also attend all staff meetings, including weekly division meetings and meetings to discuss student progress.
We are committed to principles that promote effective, inclusive teaching practices and create optimal educational environments for each of our students, and we value the skills, knowledge and experiences a diverse workforce brings to our school. As we seek to educate the whole child, affirming the cultural histories and identities of all our students, we seek faculty and staff who are knowledgeable and experienced in helping each student grow. If you see this approach as critical to teaching and learning, we urge you to apply.
