Gill St. Bernard’s School, an independent, nonsectarian, college preparatory day school for students Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, is seeking an individual to join our community as an Associate Director of College Guidance.
Position Details for Associate Director of College Guidance: The Associate Director of College Guidance will join a college counseling staff that includes the Director of College Guidance, an Associate Director of College Guidance and an Administrative Assistant. This position reports to the Director of College Guidance.
Primary Responsibilities for Associate Director of College Guidance:
Works collaboratively as a member of a team, but can also work independently on tasks
Strong presentation skills on a variety of topics within admission and financial aid
Counsels juniors, seniors, and their parents/guardians throughout the college search and application processes. Also advises students on course selection
Understands the individual student, can write a personalized letter of recommendation and organizes other support material for the college applications
Represents Gill St. Bernard’s School on a national level by attending conferences, meeting with college admission representatives, and visiting college campuses throughout the year
Understands how to guide diverse families and is competent in multiculturalism, inclusion, equity, and social justice
Qualifications for Associate Director of College Guidance:
B.A. or more advanced degree in related field(s)
Five or more years working in college admissions
Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
A keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently during high-pressure periods
Ability to listen and counsel students and parents from diverse backgrounds
Experience working with young people, ideally in a school setting
Passion and skill to contribute positively to an educational environment that supports a lifelong love of learning, self-esteem, and respect for the community and the world in which we live
