Context and Philosophy:
Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for a Long Term Substitute Upper School Science Teacher to begin in February 2018 through the end of the school year in June 2018. The position would be to teach two sections of Chemistry and one section of Advanced Chemistry as part of a teaching team. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience teaching other science disciplines, especially Physics. Additionally, candidates who have experience using technology in their teaching, collaborating with colleagues, teaching in a block schedule, and using a diversity of assessment techniques are especially suited for this role. Laboratory experience is essential. All Upper School teachers participate in the full program of an independent school in addition to their classroom responsibilities.?
Work closely with the full time teacher to implement the set curriculum and remain in close communication with that teacher and Department Chair throughout the assignment.
Teach the core subject area(s) that honors the Quaker values and the Teaching and Learning Paradigm of Friends School.
Collaborate with teachers in his/her Department, within the division, and cross-divisionally.
Provide parents and administrators with written and oral reports that explain in detail how a child is progressing in the various areas of his/her educational experience.
Complete timely, detailed, and prescriptive progress reports, grades, and comments at regular intervals during the year for each student he/she teaches.
Write lesson plans in his/her absence and help arrange for coverage of classes for planned/unplanned absences.
Bachelor's degree required; Master’s degree and experience preferred
