Faculty Position 2017–2018 School Year – FOR IMMEDIATE HIRE
Full-Time Middle School Math and Homeroom Teacher
Mackintosh Academy, a co-educational independent school serving gifted students in K through 8th, is seeking a Math and Homeroom Teacher for immediate hire in this 2017–2018 academic year (effective October 23). We seek a candidate who values the balance of intellectually challenging and creative program with developmentally appropriate and research-based practices. This teacher would be responsible for teaching Algebra 1A and 1B classes, co-running an 8th Grade Homeroom, and working collaboratively with Homeroom and Specialist Teachers to implement an academically strong, child-centered and differentiated curriculum to gifted children. This position is a combination of important roles: homeroom partner for 8th grade, math specialist teacher for grades 6-8th, and possibly taking one section of I&S (SS) for 8th graders.
Coordinates IB planning and implementation (MYP related) via a highly collaborative relationship with other grade-levels, specialist teachers, and curriculum coordinators.
Helps students build mathematical understanding through a combination of teaching strategies including direct, hands-on experience and investigation.
Implements a variety of instructional and assessment methods including integrated use of educational technology, experiential education, and project-based learning.
Facilitates the social and emotional development of the students. Key components of our daily life include: morning meetings, class meetings, service and leadership opportunities, class and school-wide agreements, rituals, routines, and all-school gatherings.
Maintains solid frequent and effective communication with home, colleagues and administration.
Participates in staff meetings, retreats, and on various committees.
Supports the overall mission of Mackintosh Academy.
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in math and/or education and preferably a Master’s Degree. Minimum of 3-5 years middle school teaching experience essential, and elementary science teaching experience preferred. Knowledge of gifted children, a plus.
