Founded in 1886, grounded in an Episcopal heritage, and located in the heart of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, we are an intentionally small, co-educational, college prep boarding school with an engaging inquiry-based curriculum for students in grades 9-12.
Following the eight year tenure of Tim Breen, Ph.D., we seek an Interim Head to serve from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.
OUR STUDENT BODY is 80% boarding and 20% day, and about 50/50 male/female. Students come from 16 US states and 12 countries, with approximately 30% of our students being international.
OUR PROGRAM is focused on student-driven inquiry, with every student required to present the results of a LASR (Leadership, Arts, Service, Research) project to the community at some point before graduation. Every student participates in Orientation at the start of each school year, as well as two off-campus week-long Field Courses led by faculty during the year. Classroom course offerings range from introductory to advanced placement, with an average of 10 students per class. All students participate in sports or other afternoon activities every season, and we are also able to offer climbing, kayaking, and skiing at nearby locations.
OUR FACULTY consists of 33 teachers, 63% with one or more advanced degrees, the majority of whom live on campus. We have a 5:1 student-faculty ratio.
THE SCHOOL has a $5.2 million annual budget, a $2.2 million endowment, and is in the second year of the silent phase of its largest capital campaign to date. For more information about The White Mountain School, please see our web site: whitemountain.org
