Provide individualized support for academic and personal challenges for students, including senior level humanities courses.
Create, implements, and reviews IEPs
Facilitate the Ministry of Education adjudication process for provincial examinations and the College Board processes for Students with Disabilities
Communicate and collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administration and outside agencies to support student learning
Facilitate meetings between students, parents and Senior School teachers
Maintain documentation and records for individual students, ensuring confidentiality in reporting
Provides appropriate feedback to advisors and parents on student progress through regular communication
Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Student Services department
Participates in school meetings and events, including school planning and professional development
Creates a positive and supportive culture for learning
Set annual professional a goals
Be an active and positive participant in the co-curricular program
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent with a Special Education focus and qualifications to teach at an intermediate and senior level
B.C. Ministry of Education Certification
Experience as a Special Education Teacher at a senior school level
Humanities background an asset
A demonstrable awareness of the BC Ministry of Education Special Education policies and procedures
Experience reading and interpreting psycho-educational assessments
Experience creating and implementing IEPs
A demonstrable awareness of the learning styles of girls and young women
Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching
Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice
Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation and mediation skills
A commitment toward continued professional development and growth
Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program the diverse life of the school community
