Christ School (Asheville, NC), an independent boarding and day school serving boys in grades 8 through 12 is currently seeking a counselor for the 2018-2019 school year. Qualified candidates must have a master’s degree and be licensed by mental health or counseling board. Candidates must have experience working in an academic setting, understand the social and emotional development of adolescents, be familiar with the peculiar challenges facing adolescent boys, and have skills associated with family systems.
The Christ School counselor provides short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and parental support. They work closely with the school’s student life office to identify students in need and address overall concerns within the student population. They also assist in teaching student enrichment classes on subjects related to adolescent growth.
The counselor consults with parents to assess concerns, determine appropriate services, and connect students with other providers to address identified needs. They maintain open communication with service providers to ensure a continuity of care that serves the best interest of students and the school. The counselor plays an essential role in the school’s efforts to successfully partner with students, families, faculty, and staff as they work to ensure successful development our students’ emotional, social, and academic needs.

Master's Degree from an accredited institution in School Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field
State certification or licensure in counseling or other mental health profession. licensure as a Mental Health Counselor.
A minimum of three years of counseling experience in a middle school or high school setting.
Ability to support and guide parents, faculty, and staff in identifying and prioritizing the best interests of the students
Capacity to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff, and foster a student-centered environment
Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality as appropriate
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must pass required background check
Candidates with at least five years of experience counseling adolescents in a secondary school and residential environments would be preferred.
