West Nottingham Academy seeks to employ a highly motivated, detail-oriented person with excellent people skills to serve as School Nurse. This position will provide a clinically effective, high-quality service of nursing care to students and first aid care to all members of the school community.
The School Nurse should have experience and expertise to support, lead, manage and understand the health and wellness concerns challenging a boarding school community, including:
Providing nursing care, in compliance with school policy, professional standards of practice, and physician’s orders, to students and staff who present with illness or have been injured.
Record dispensing of drugs following drug protocols
Administering medication and health care procedures within the scope of nursing practice and prescribed by an appropriately licensed health care professional.
Communicating with parents, and school administrators regarding health issues with the students.
Communicating with doctors’ offices and other health care providers.
Arrange for boarding students to attend any medical, dental or other health appointments as necessary
Provide a confidential counselling and health advice service as appropriate.
Follow procedures for the safe disposal of clinical waste
Be aware of recommended safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs. Maintain treatment room stock, hygiene and tidiness.
Maintaining accurate medical records.
On-call duties outside of school hours and activities
Utilizing considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment and of child growth and development.
Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services and of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service programs.
Understanding of the school organization and the community served.
Promoting preventive medical care and health awareness/education through individual and group interactions with students, families, and the community.
Organizing the nursing office and manage time wisely.
Using a computer and various software applications.
Environmental Working Conditions
Employee will be expected to attend safety/awareness training to ensure the safety of themselves, the students, and West Nottingham Academy in its entirety.

Required Education & Qualifications
Valid MD State RN or LPN License
Associate or Bachelor Degree in Nursing
First Aid Administration
Knowledgeable in current health issues, and trends
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Previous School Nurse/Boarding School experience preferred
Flexibility in ScheduleSchool nurse is an exempt employee which requires some non-traditional work hours, including nights and weekends.
Salary commensurate with experience; benefits include health, dental and retirement (TIAA/CREF), as well as meals in the school dining hall when classes are in session
