The Calhoun School seeks an experienced Lower School Associate Teacher.

The Associate Teacher assists the Head Teacher and assumes responsibility for general supervision, development, and education of all children. He/she may assume the role and responsibilities of the Head Teacher in the absence of the regularly assigned Head Teacher.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide supervision of all children both indoors and outdoors to maintain program quality and safety (Children must be visually supervised at all times);
Prepare and implement the daily program alongside the Head Teacher;
Collaborate and work as part of the classroom team to create planned activities;
Provide assistance to children in their daily routines such as toileting, hand washing, rest time, lunch and snack time;
Work with the Head Teacher to ensure that daily arrival and departure times are well organized. All children and parents are greeted warmly, hands are washed upon arrival, all children are supervised at all times, and children are actively engaged during the transition time;
Observe and document children’s developmental progress in collaboration with the Head Teacher;
Support children in their problem solving skills providing them with age appropriate language and techniques, including redirection and/or conflict resolution. Facilitate and scaffold children’s social interactions;
Maintain an environment that is clean, sanitary and free of safety hazards. Cleaning includes toys, shelves, counters, floors, sinks, etc.;
Participate in the opening and/or closing routines, including preparation for the current day or next day’s program activities;
Create an atmosphere that supports confidentiality of family and children’s information with staff and the community;
Assume the role of the Lead Teacher in the Head Teacher’s absence;
Attend in-service training and staff meetings;
Timely regular attendance;
Fulfilling duties, responsibilities and commitments as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
Ongoing parent communication;
Commitment to school-wide initiatives and participation in school-wide professional development days.
Bachelor's degree required;
Commitment to diversity, collegiality and school mission;
Experience working with young children;
Candidates will have an appreciation for student-centered, engaging and innovative teaching practices;
Exemption-free Background/Criminal Record as well as Child Abuse Index Clearance. ?
