The Orme School is a private college-preparatory boarding school with a strongly rooted Horsemanship Program stemming from its origins as a cattle ranch. Our Horsemanship Program stays true to its history and focuses on Western style riding. We compete in both Ranch Sorting competitions and Ranch Riding shows. We also believe in producing well rounded riders and try to expose our students to many disciplines. The Assistant Director of Horsemanship will assist the Director in all aspects of managing horses and instructing students so that the lives of each are improved. This is a year round position.
Duties Assist Director of Horsemanship in all tasks. Assist in teaching Horsemanship. Coach junior varsity, after school horsemanship activity. Maintain calendar of horsemanship events. Maintain riding schedule for school horses. Maintain horse files (farrier work, donations, feeding, injuries, tack, etc.). Schedule farrier visits. Catalog equipment and tack. Treat and medicate horses, and schedule vet visits. Manage email communications.. Outreach communications (Alumni and Marketing). Order hay. Lead trail rides for students, summer camps and alumni. Barn chores, turnouts, feeding
Requirements Strong background in equitation (Both Western and English preferred). Experience teaching riding lessons. Experience schooling horses. Desire to work with children and young adults. Bandaging and injections. Polo and shipping wrapping. Safety should always be priority.
Preferred Skills – Experience driving a horse trailer.
