Position description: Head of School for St. James Academy
St. James Academy Community is seeking a respected educator to continue and foster the Academy’s commitment to rigorous academic standards within an inclusive and nurturing Christian Community.
St. James Academy, founded in 1821, is an Episcopal parish day school offering coeducational programs for students in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. It is situated on 89 acres of rolling countryside in northern Baltimore County, known as “My Lady’s Manor”. Its mission is to offer students “… a Christian environment, a program of excellence for the intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical development of our school community [while promoting] a global perspective and intercultural understanding so as to prepare each individual for life-long learning, and to live a creative and compassionate life worthy of a child of God and a contributing member of our world.” The Lower School curriculum is a child-centered, rigorous and creative learning environment. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, offered in Grades Six through Eight, prepares our students for rigorous and challenging high school study.
The Academy provides a small teacher-to-student ratio which promotes individual attention and personal concern for each student. The result is a positive, caring atmosphere which maximizes student achievement and potential. St. James Academy’s school prayer includes this promise to our students that: We will : “Strengthen them when they stand, Comfort them when they are discouraged or downhearted, Raise them up when they fall.” In doing so, St. James supports the intellectual and emotional growth of its students in a safe environment that allows the individual student to recognize mistakes, make amends, rebuild trust, and realize their full potential.
The Academy is dedicated to welcoming an entire family when a student enrolls. Parent participation in many aspects of school life leads to the child’s sense of his/her education being part of a larger framework of their family’s lives as well as the life of a broader community. The cooperative and dedicated involvement of parents, faculty, and staff encourages close and nurturing relationships among all constituencies.
