Cascades Academy seeks a highly motivated professional to serve as an Interim Business Officer to lead the school’s efforts in finance, facilities, and human resources.
Cascades Academy is an independent PK-12 day school with 190 students located in the beautiful mountain town of Bend, Oregon. The school was founded in 2003 and resides on an award-winning 21-acre campus located on the Deschutes River. The school’s unique mission weaves challenging academics with experiential learning and actively cultivates a nurturing and inclusive school community.
Specific responsibilities include:
Keep an accurate continuous record of the cash and financial position of the school and manage the financial operation of the school so the institution remains financially stable.
Develop and test internal controls.
Ensure the timely collection of all receivables and manage collections.
Prepare general journal adjustments, accruals, and review trial balance in order to prepare monthly Profit & Loss Statement, Budget v. Actual and Balance Sheet for HOS and Finance Committee.
Provide staff support, in conjunction with the HOS, to the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee in the development of annual budget and multi-year strategic financial plan.
Serve as staff support for the Facilities Committee.
Create and oversee PPRRSM budget.
Secure and assist CPA firm with year-end financials and schedules needed for annual review or audit and preparation of 990.
Oversee all school purchasing, financial investments and banking activities.
Oversee all onboarding and separation of employees, benefits programs, and insurance policies.
Manage compliance of 403b retirement program including filing of form 5500.
Serve as staff support for Investment Committee.
Manage risk at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students, on and off campus, and maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school.
Track enrollment agreements, tuition deposits, and payments working with Director of Admission.
Supervise and coordinate the work of the Bookkeeper.
Supervise and assist the Facilities Manager.
Staff and interface with janitorial, landscaping, and other vendor relationships.
Ensure effective management of all auxiliary programming including summer program, extended day programs, food-service operations, facility rentals, and any other auxiliary enterprises of the school.
Assist the HOS with decisions regarding salaries and benefits for all personnel, including the evaluation of support staff.
Coordinate with Director of Development to reconcile donations and pledges.
Represent the school at various regional, state, and national associations relative to a Business Manager.
* The school’s current business officer is on a leave of absence, and the school is looking for someone to cover her duties until she is able to return.
