Position: Part-Time or Full-Time Visual Arts Teacher (beginning in 2018-2019 school year)
High Point Academy is a 350-student kindergarten-8th grade independent school nestled in the foothills of Pasadena, CA. Our mission is dedicated to awakening the joy of learning in each student to reach his/her fullest potential in a close-knit, nurturing, collaborative and stimulating community.
High Point Academy is looking for an outstanding visual arts teacher beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.
Plans an art education program involving demonstrations, student led discussions, hands-on activities, and direct application of skills consistent with the school’s art curriculum; organizes activities for optimal learning.
Works collaboratively with class teachers to ensure integrated approach to curriculum.
Leads with the preparation of resource rich lessons and interactive art activities for students.
Monitors student progress and maintains relevant evidence of student learning.
Establishes and maintains student expectations for a productive learning environment during class sessions.
Works collaboratively to plan and develop curriculum.
Participates in faculty committees and other required duties.
Works effectively with all members of the faculty and staff.
Exhibits an outstanding level of teacher support and collaborative spirit.
Qualifications of the ideal candidate
Has knowledge and experience with the use of a wide range of visual arts tools, media, and learning environments for teaching, learning and assessing.
Utilizes technology (i.e., graphic design, etc.) as an important tool for teaching 21st century art skills.
Maintains an interest in working with elementary and middle school age students.
Has experience with and knowledge of curriculum development
Possesses a bachelor’s degree in education and/or an art-related field
